Charnwood Borough Council has welcomed a C2 grade from the Regulator for Social Housing (RSH) following its first inspection under the system. The grade is the second highest of four available and indicates the council is compliant with all consumer standards, though some areas require improvement.
The council manages approximately 5,400 homes. All local authority landlords are subject to RSH inspections, which assess compliance with four consumer standards designed to drive improvements in social housing across the country.
What the inspection covered
The inspection assessed performance across four areas: safety and quality, transparency and influence and accountability, neighbourhood and community, and tenancy.
Council response
Councillor Jennifer Tillotson, Lead Member for Housing, said the council had worked hard to improve services. She highlighted strengths including a positive culture of fairness towards tenants and improvements to the repairs service.
"Clearly, there are also areas which we need to improve on, and there are plans in place to take us forward," Councillor Tillotson said. "We're committed to providing good quality, safe homes for our tenants and this judgement reflects we are doing that."
She also thanked staff, councillors, tenants and stakeholders involved in the inspection process.
What happens next
The council has plans in place to address areas identified for improvement. It will continue to work with tenants through its representative groups, including the Housing Management Advisory Board, Tenant Voice Panel, the Charnwood Housing Residents' Forum, Senior Citizens' Forum and the Editorial Panel.
