The southbound M1 motorway has been closed in Leicestershire following a crash, Leicestershire Police has confirmed.
The closure extends from junction 23 at Loughborough to junction 22 at Markfield. Emergency services are at the scene of the collision.
Travel disruption
National Highways reported delays of more than one hour, with six miles of congestion on the approach to the closure. Traffic has been prevented from driving southbound at junction 23.
No estimated time for reopening has been provided by National Highways.
Leicestershire Police thanked drivers for their patience while emergency services deal with the incident.
