Cllr Laurie Needham has resigned from Charnwood Borough Council, effective Wednesday, 5 August 2026. Needham represented the Wreake Valley ward and was Leader of the Green Group on the council.
Needham was first elected to the council in the 2019 local borough elections.
What happens next
A notice of vacancy for the Wreake Valley ward seat will be issued shortly, and a by-election is expected to be called in due course.
Until a new councillor is elected, residents in Wreake Valley with ward-related issues can contact the remaining ward councillors: Chris O'Neill and Sandra Woodward.
Green Group leadership change
Cllr Naomi Bottomley has been appointed as the new Leader of the Green Group. Cllr Steve Bellamy is the new Deputy Green Group Leader.
