The Government has announced its decision on local government reorganisation affecting Charnwood. From April 2028, the existing 10 councils across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland will be replaced by two unitary councils.
Most of Charnwood will be served by the new council for Leicestershire and Rutland. However, some areas including Syston, Birstall, Thurmaston and Anstey will be served by the new council covering Leicester, Oadby and Wigston, along with parts of Blaby and Harborough.
What this means for residents
All council services continue to operate normally. There is no need for residents to take action at this time. Significant changes will not take effect until 2028.
