Charnwood residents are invited to a Remembrance Sunday service and parade in Loughborough on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The Remembrance Parade will start at 10.20am from Market Place, proceeding through the town centre to Queen's Park, where the service will begin at 10.50am at the Carillon Tower.
The Last Post will be played and a two-minute silence observed at 11am. The Revd. Emily Sharman, Chaplain to the Royal British Legion, Loughborough Branch and Rector of All Saints with Holy Trinity Parish Church, will lead the service. The Mayor's Chaplain Liz Newton will also take part.
The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Colin Hamilton, said: "Remembrance Sunday is an important opportunity for our communities to come together and reflect on the courage, service and sacrifice of those who have defended our freedoms. It is a time to remember those who gave their lives in conflicts past and present, while also recognising the dedication of those who continue to serve today."
How to attend and accessibility
Large screens will be positioned on either side of the Carillon Tower to broadcast the service live. For those unable to attend in person, Charnwood Borough Council will live-stream the event on its YouTube channel and share updates via social media.
The New Street gates at Queen's Park will close to the public at 10.30am due to the parade. Visitors can use alternative entrances via Granby Street or Browns Lane.
Road closures and travel
Road closures will affect Wards End, Devonshire Square, Cattle Market, Granby Street, and part of Victoria Street. Visitors should allow extra time travelling to the event and expect delays. Granby Street Car Park will remain open but can only be accessed via Packe Street, as the usual route will be closed from Wards End.
