Charnwood Borough Council is building a new aviary at Queen's Park in Loughborough to replace the existing structure. A temporary aviary has been constructed to house the birds while their new home is built.
Visitors will still be able to see the birds during the work, including parakeets, cockatiels, budgerigars, canaries and finches. The temporary aviary is located next to the existing one.
Council's commitment to the park
Councillor Anne Gray, the Council's lead member for open spaces, said the project demonstrates the authority's commitment to maintaining and improving Queen's Park's facilities.
"The wellbeing of the birds is our top priority and this new aviary will provide a safe, modern environment for them to thrive in," Councillor Gray said.
What's open during construction
Access to Charnwood Museum and Olivia's Cafe will not be affected during the work.
The new aviary is expected to be completed in autumn 2026.
